What to expect from counselling?
Everybody’s experience of counselling will be unique but below is a little bit of general information about what to expect from your sessions with me.
The first session is an opportunity to meet and discuss what you would like to gain from counselling, it is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and to decide if you feel I am the right counsellor for you.
Types of therapy.
As am integrative therapist I am able to offer lots of different therapy styles depending on your preference and what it is you hope to achieve. Generally though as the session’s progress I usually use a range of different therapy modalities to explore different issues and to help you get the most from your sessions.
How long will I need counselling for?
There is no fixed answer to this as it depends on how many sessions you would like. Everyone is different and the number of session you have will depend on what your objectives, wants, needs and goals from therapy are.
I offer both short and long term therapy. For some people 6-12 sessions is adequate for what they want to achieve from their sessions however lots of people find they want to stay in therapy a little longer and get a deeper insight.
Frequency & length of sessions.
Weekly sessions a preferable at least in the beginning of your counselling, this is because it helps to build that unique therapeutic relationship with each other and build a solid foundation for the therapy to grow from.
After sometime or as the therapy starts to come to an end you may feel like you would like to make your appointments fortnightly.
All sessions are 1 hour long.
Governing bodies and DBS.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and follow their code of ethics and conduct to ensure safe and ethical practice at all times. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate. (Previously CRB)
